iXsystems announced TrueNAS SCALE “Bluefin” 22.12.1 and the availability of the TrueNAS Mini R storage appliance. TrueNAS SCALE, powered by Linux, is an open, hyper-converged, unified scale-out storage platform for file, block, and object storage.
TrueNAS SCALE provides platform consolidation to reduce costs, simplify administration, and accelerate application performance by eliminating protocol and networking layers. Linux, Kubernetes, and containers are key technologies that enable embedded applications within TrueNAS SCALE. SMB and NFS file sharing, iSCSI Block Storage, S3 Object Storage, iX-Storj service for Globally Distributed Storage, and Cloud Sync for interoperability with public cloud storage are supported with TrueNAS SCALE.
More than 20,000 TrueNAS adopters have tested the new capabilities of TrueNAS SCALE Bluefin, which include cluster management APIs and a Kubernetes CSI Driver for using TrueNAS SCALE as a storage cluster. In addition to general fixes and improvements, TrueNAS SCALE 22.12.1 includes gains in performance and an option for Kubernetes API passthrough for external orchestrators.
The new TrueNAS Mini R is a rack-mountable storage system offering 12 lockable and hot-swappable 3.5″ drive bays supporting more than 200TB with the option for 2.5″ SATA SSDs and over 90TB of flash storage. The TrueNAS Mini R joined the Mini X, X+, and XL+ systems in the entry-level Mini series.
The Mini R has been designed with a low-noise profile and is well-suited for rack mounting in a remote site or office environment. Although the Mini R is ideal for small and home offices, it can also be deployed as part of an enterprise environment for remote sites, backup, and non-critical departmental applications.
Pricing and Availability
TrueNAS SCALE 22.12.1 is available as a free download at truenas.com/scale and comes pre-installed on TrueNAS Enterprise appliances, including TrueNAS Enterprise M-Series and R-Series appliances. Support is included.
The TrueNAS Mini R appliance starts at under $2,000 and is now available from iXsystems.
