iXsystems has announced the business-ready releases of TrueNAS 13.0 and TrueNAS SCALE 22.02.1. Open Source pioneer iXsystems has made significant performance improvements to TrueNAS 13.0, a widely deployed scale-up storage software system. TrueNAS SCALE 22.02.1 delivers options for scale-out and hyperconverged storage. Both software platforms are built for data-intensive environments and feature greater resiliency and the data freedom of TrueNAS Open Storage.

TrueNAS is a popular Open Source storage operating system and an efficient solution for managing and sharing data over a network. It provides a simple way to create a safe, secure, centralized, and easily accessible place for your data. TrueNAS Open Storage provides unified ZFS-based storage for file, block, object, and application data.

TrueNAS 13.0 is the workhorse of high-performance Open Storage with several new and significant enhancements over the previous version. An update to FreeBSD 13.0 OS improves performance for larger systems by up to 20 percent, while larger systems running OpenZFS 2.1 benefit from reduced system restart and failover times of more than 80 percent. Samba 4.15 incorporates important security and virtual file system improvements to SMB. Workloads using NFS nconnect get a boost of 400 percent performance improvements.

TrueNAS 13.0, the scale-up platform, is available as CORE, the free community edition, and Enterprise editions that pair data protection and efficiency features of OpenZFS with enterprise-grade hardware. Enterprise systems also benefit from flexible configuration options, including high-availability and all-flash configurations, making it easy to integrate Enterprise appliances into any environment.

TrueNAS Enterprise delivers integrated data protection features, including copy-on-write and data integrity checks to prevent corruption. Built-in RAID protection, unlimited snapshots, and resilient replication protect your data and facilitate recovery even in the event of hardware failure or malware, while storage optimization features like advanced compression, caching, and thin/thick provisioning maximize storage efficiency.

TrueNAS SCALE 22.02.1 improves the quality and enables the transition to more complex scale-out and hyperconverged infrastructure deployments. TrueNAS SCALE is based on Debian Linux and can be installed and run on a single node and then scale out to multiple nodes. There is an easy migration path for TrueNAS 12.0 and TrueNAS 13.0 users to TrueNAS SCALE as application requirements advance or change.

iXsystems sells a variety of hardware solutions that are rigorously qualified and built to maximize TrueNAS performance. Each line of products is tailored to meet specific needs, whether a home user, Small and Medium Enterprise (SME), or extended business environment.

iXsystems has a solid management platform to help administrators support the TrueNAS system. TrueCommand 2.1 is the Single-Pane-of-Glass Management Platform for all TrueNAS systems. TrueNAS SCALE and TrueNAS 13.0 include support for TrueCommand (Docker or VM) and TrueCommand Cloud, a SaaS version that provides a VPN capability for managing across private networks.

TrueCommand 2.1 includes:

  • Storage navigation of datasets and files across multiple NAS systems.
  • Real-time per-second statistics.
  • Role-Based and Team-Based Access Controls (RBAC).
  • Tracking and reporting inventory with serial numbers and support status.
  • Two-Factor Authentication and Single-Sign-On.

Pricing and Availability
TrueNAS is available as Open Storage software downloadable at no cost or as a TrueNAS appliance for a turnkey experience with enterprise-grade features and support. Despite industry-wide supply chain issues, iX has materials in stock and can deliver complete TrueNAS appliances to customers within weeks to meet deployment requirements. TrueNAS 13.0 is available for free download at truenas.com/truenas-core. TrueNAS SCALE 22.02.1 is available for free download at truenas.com/scale. TrueNAS storage systems can be found at truenas.com/systems-overview/. Additional information can also be found within the TrueNAS community forum.
