NetApp BlueXP Adds Data Protection, Security Features

NetApp introduced new features for NetApp BlueXP that include simplified backup and recovery, expanded data protection across more environments, and deployment in highly secure, compliance-sensitive environments.

NetApp introduced new features for NetApp BlueXP that include simplified backup and recovery, expanded data protection across more environments, and deployment in highly secure, compliance-sensitive environments.  As the amount and importance of data continue to rise, there is a growing worry about the security and safeguarding of such information. As the volume of stored data grows, so does its value and, as such, its vulnerability.

As cyber threats and ransomware attacks increase, the potential data loss or corruption can devastate an organization, destroying reputations and depleting financial resources needed for growth and longevity.

Data infrastructures span on-premises and multiple cloud environments, complicating data protection, security, and compliance, complicating management, reliability, and the ability to avoid devastating loss.  The features added to NetApp BlueXP address these concerns by delivering a consistent operational model, ensuring the same experience everywhere on any application.

Launched in November 2022, NetApp BlueXP is intended to simplify the complexities of operating a hybrid and multicloud data estate at the enterprise level by providing a single control plane for building an efficient and reliable hybrid multicloud storage solution. The new features build on the unified experience and deliver data service capabilities that automate, discover, manage, and protect data for multicloud infrastructures and business processes.

Suited for Highly Secure, Compliance-Sensitive Environments

With the addition of capabilities like Private and Restricted modes, NetApp BlueXP and services can be deployed in highly secure, compliance-sensitive environments, including the government cloud, with support for “dark site” implementations.

BlueXP includes Cloud Insights, a cloud infrastructure monitoring tool that provides troubleshooting and the ability to optimize all resources, such as public clouds and private data centers. The new BlueXP features now include Cloud Insights: Federal Edition, available for deployment in environments requiring FedRAMP High impact-level protections.

Another new feature in the NetApp BlueXP release is making Cloud Volumes ONTAP available in the AWS Intel Community Marketplace. The NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP instance is deployed on AWS and serves as backend storage to Astra Trident.

Cohesive Data Protection

NetApp BlueXP update delivers cohesive data protection strategies across systems, locations, and workloads from a single point of control. Backup and Recovery now provides a single control plane to simplify customized backup strategies across workloads, including a broader range of environments. The update eliminates the need for multiple tools and specially trained resources and includes the full spectrum of 3-2-1 backup variations. The 3-2-1 backup strategy means three copies of the data (3) on two different media types (2), with one of the backup copies stored off-site (1).

With this update, NetApp BlueXP Data Protection extends to a greater range of environments with support for application-consistent database deployments in major clouds.

NetApp BlueXP is the preferred method to manage NetApp ONTAP, NetApp’s data management software, both in the cloud and on-premises. NetApp BlueXP has included over a dozen feature updates and innovations, positioning ONTAP as a solid option for secure data storage.

NetApp BlueXP is available as a free trial.
