Optimize Storage Costs with Amazon EFS Archive

Amazon has announced and launched EFS Archive as a third tier for storage of files that are rarely accessed, compared to the other two storage tiers: Standard and Infrequent Access (IA).

Amazon has announced and launched EFS Archive as a third tier for storage of files that are rarely accessed, compared to the other two storage tiers: Standard and Infrequent Access (IA).

Additionally, there is no need to manually adjust where individual datasets are stored. The EFS Lifecycle Management system constantly monitors your data and will automatically migrate files across storage classes based on their access patterns. Therefore, it is possible to have a single file system that is accessed in varied ways from active, regular usage to cold storage data.

With Amazon EFS Archive, it is possible to save money by optimizing the storage tiers used within large file-based datasets. Workloads that contain a mix of active and inactive data from sources like Machine Learning training and data retained for compliance for institutions such as Finance and Medical can readily benefit from the cost savings that EFS Archive will bring.

Within EFS Lifecycle Management, users can even adjust the file transition limits to more accurately reflect their usage patterns.

EFS Archive is available today in all AWS Regions where Amazon EFS is offered, excluding those based in China.
