Today QNAP Systems, Inc. released its new TVS-882BR Blu-ray NAS series, which includes two models the TVS-882BR and TVS-882BRT3. QNAP is also announcing a partnership with Fengtao Software that will provide an all-in-one backup solution with its DVDFab software. The DVDFab software enables disc-based files to the NAS for more convenient storage while also enabling NAS-based files to be written to discs for disaster recovery purposes.

The new TVS-882BR Blu-ray NAS series are powered by 7th-Generation Intel multi-core processors (Core i5, i7), up to 64GB of DDR4 2133 MHz RAM, four Gigabit Ethernet ports, and SATA 6Gb/s storage. The system also comes with two M.2 SATA 6Gb/s slots that, combined with Qtier auto-tiering technology and SSD caching, improves overall system performance. According to the company, the series is able to hit 447 MB/s read/write speeds and up to 443 MB/s read/write speeds when used with Intel AES-NI encryption. The series also features three PCIe Gen.3 slots with the ability to add a 10GbE/40GbE network adapter, SAS storage expansion card, or USB 3.1 10GbE adapter (the TVS-882BRT3 features two pre-installed Thunderbolt 3 expansion cards). The series can also double as a Blu-ray player, allowing direct playback via HDMI using Linux Station or Virtualization Station.

The TVS-882BRT3 has four Thunderbolt 3 ports, which, according to QNAP, will provide a highly efficient collaborative environment for media professionals, while also allowing instant writing of their creative works to disc. These ports provide 40Gbps bandwidth and Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet (T2E) 10GbE connection. With the Thunderbolt 3 ports and disc copying software, users should have a smooth editing workflow on a single NAS device.

The new TVS-882BR Blu-ray NAS series is powered by QNAP’s latest iteration of its popular QTS operating system, QTS 4.3. The series is ideal for deploying virtualization environments (including VMware, Citrix, Microsoft Hyper-V and Windows Server 2012 R2) as well as hosting virtual machines through Virtualization Station. QNAP QRM+ allows admins to centrally manage and monitor Windows, Linux and IPMI-compatible devices. And if an organization needs more capacity they can easily expand storage through 5-bay, 8-bay, or 10-bay expansion units (the 5-bay UX-500P, 8-bay UX-800P and 10-bay REXP-1000 Pro; TVS-882BRT3: the 5-bay TX-500P and 8-bay TX-800P respectively).
