QNAP has announced the launch of their new QuTS hero NAS TS-hx87XU-RP series. Available in 9, 18, 22, and 30-bay models, the TS-hx87XU-RP series combines Intel Xeon E-2300 series processors with 10GbE and 2.5GbE multi-Gig connectivity. They also feature a hybrid HDD/SSD storage architecture for a nice balance between performance, capacity, and cost.
Highlighted by its focus on data integrity and data reduction, the TS-hx87XU-RP series features near-limitless snapshots and up to 5 petabytes capacity per shared folder. This makes them well suited for heavy business workload use cases such as file servers, virtualization servers, VDI, and backup/restore.
Component-wise, the TS-hx87XU-RP is powered by an Intel Xeon E processor, up to 128 GB DDR4 ECC memory and redundant power supply protection to meet the multitasking demands of these applications. It also features both 10GBASE-T and 2.5GbE network ports to handle bandwidth-demanding tasks like virtualization, large file transfers, and real-time applications.
In addition, it comes equipped with PCIe Gen 4 slots to expand its functionality as it allows users to install additional functionality such as:
Organizations can also pair the TS-hx87XU-RP series with QNAP’s managed and unmanaged 10GbE/2.5GbE switches, which enables high-speed, secure and scalable network environments without having to worry about exceeding budgets.
Moreover, using an HDD/SSD hybrid storage configuration with the TS-hx87XU-RP balances cost, performance, and capacity, while the 9-bay model (TS-h987XU-RP) supports low-latency U.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 4 x4 SSDs. Organizations can also add SSD caching for their IOPS-intensive workloads to speed up access to vital data.
The ZFS-based TS-hx87XU-RP features self-healing storage, advanced data reduction, and real-time SnapSync, which helps primary and secondary NAS solutions to maintain identical data and thus nonstop business operations. QNAP SSD Antiwear Leveling technology focuses on preventing simultaneous SSD failure to help expand overall data protection and system reliability.
QNAP’s App Center gives organizations a comprehensive library of install-on-demand apps to further expand the use of their NAS solutions. This includes hosting virtual machines and containers, facilitating VMware/Hyper-V VM backup and Google Workspace/Microsoft 365 backup, simplifying local/remote/cloud backups, and creating S3-compatible object storage.
Here is a quick rundown of their quoted potential performance:
