Red Hat OpenStack Platform 16 Hits GA

Today Red Hat announced the generally availability of Red Hat OpenStack Platform 16, the latest version of its cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution. Red Hat states that the latest version comes with over a thousand enhancements and new features that, in their words, will lay the foundation for enterprise and telco workloads from programmable IaaS for hybrid clouds, developer clouds and production clouds and cloud-native applications like network functions virtualization (NFV), edge computing, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). This is a fairly quick turnaround in updates, with version 15 coming out in September of 2019.

This is a fairly quick turnaround in updates, with version 15 coming out in September of 2019.

Red Hat OpenStack Platform 16 is built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8. The latest version is all about helping companies with innovation, delivering innovations quickly with few disruptions. Version 16 is said to add a refined long-life support lifecycle, comprehensive feature consolidation and a new commitment to delivering continuous community innovation as enterprise-ready features via stream releases. Red Hat OpenStack Platform 16 takes the best from version 14 and 15 as well as the OpenStack community releases of “Rocky”, “Stein” and “Train.”

This release is also designed to be stable. Red Hat states that OpenStack Platform 16 helps companies standardize and remain on a single version of the platform for up to five years. Having a consistent platform brings about several advantages, namely not waiting for the next full upgrade before putting plans into action. Consistent doesn’t mean static. Users will be able to take advantage of new innovation with low risks as they roll out.

Availability

Red Hat OpenStack Platform 16 is available now via the Red Hat Customer Portal, for Red Hat OpenStack Platform customers with active subscriptions.
