SanDisk X300s Self-Encrypting SSD Announced

SanDisk has announced the X300s SSD which is the company’s first self-encrypting solid state drive. Using TCG Opal 2.0 and Microsoft Encrypted Drive hardware-based encryption in comination with a new SSD administration dashboard for easier audit and compliance management, the X300s SSD delivers maximum data protection and performance to help address IT decision makers’ top data management and security challenges. The SanDisk X300s SSD is also ideal for use as a high performance storage component for design-in scenarios, allowing OEM manufacturers hasten the delivery of new products to market.

The SanDisk X300s provides CIOs and IT decision makers with a storage solution that addresses the reduced TCO, data loss prevention, compliance and the higher business productivity needs of present day corporate environments. The SSD drive uses an AES 256-bit FIPS 197 certified hardware crypto engine; this enables full-disk encryption without the performance hindrance that normally occurs when using software-based encryption. In addition, the X300s is designed to be compatible with TCG Opal 2.0 and Microsoft Encrypted Hard Drive and is compliant with industry-standard security specifications such as IEEE 1667. It also features advanced power management with DEVSLP low-power mode, which enables Microsoft InstantGo.

The SanDisk X300s SSD is exclusively equipped with Wave System’s EMBASSY Security Center (ESC) as part of the upcoming SanDisk SSD Dashboard software suite. Wave’s ESC is a local client application that manages the X300s by determining who can access the encrypted data through user and password setup. With Wave’s ESC, the X300s SSD marks SanDisk as the only drive manufacturer to include local management with each drive; all at no additional cost.

Also announced today is SanDisk's broad ecosystem of independent software vendors (ISV), which further enhances the security scalability of the X300s SSD. This unique ecosystem provides SanDisk customers with fully certified solutions to ease the deployment and management of the X300s. SanDisk’s broad ISV partner ecosystem provides easier data protection management in today’s multiplatform environments in addition to cloud-based manageability of self-encrypting SSDs, making them a worthwhile option for businesses that have a wide range of IT requirements and budgets. This ecosystem also allows corporations to meet many of the regulatory standards for encryption of protected employee data including those required by HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley, PCI-DSS, and many state and local privacy laws.

Availability

The SanDisk X300s SSD is slated for June release through the SanDisk Commercial Business Channel (CBC) in two form factors, 2.5” 7mm and M.2 2280 single-sided, and in several capacities: 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Capacities up to 512GB will be supported on the M.2 2280 single-sided design form factor. The SanDisk SSD Dashboard equipped with Wave ESC will be available in early June 2014.
