Seagate Announces Updates to Backup Plus Line of External Drives

Seagate Technology has announced that its Backup Plus family of external drives is now offering 200GB of OneDrive cloud storage and the addition of Lyve’s photo and video management app. Seagate Backup Plus drives are bundled with Seagate Dashboard software for plug-and-play PC backup as well as mobile and social media backup. Seagate has also announced a 4TB capacity for its Backup Plus portable, which is the company's slim 20.5mm form factor external HDD that uses a five platter portable drive.

Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage is an added feature designed to deliver accessibility to user content on all of their devices. It allows easy access to important files from any connected mobile device and keeps documents that are still in progress to be up to date on each of those devices, enabling seamless sharing and collaborating with others.

The Seagate Backup Plus family of external drives now feature the Lyve app and service, which helps consumers collect and organize their photos and videos. The Lyve app can organize an enormous amount content into one location while synchronizing and de-duplicating the collections across all devices to improve organization and access. The Lyve app is compatible with iOS, Android, Windows and Mac OS X.

Seagate indicates that adding a Backup Plus external hard drive to a Lyve account gives consumers the benefits of access, management and organization, as well as an affordable way to help ensure that all of their content is collected and safely stored in one place on the Seagate Backup Plus hard drive. In addition, consumers can also clear valuable space off their devices knowing their full resolution photos and videos are backed up and easily accessible via the Lyve app.

Seagate’s Backup Plus line is the industry’s first external hard drive to add backup capabilities to social networks as it comes equipped with Seagate’s Dashboard software, which features scheduled or instantaneous on-demand backup as well as Facebook and Flickr functionality. In addition, the Seagate MobileBackup app easily backup a mobile device wirelessly to the external drive while on a network and by use of a cloud service of choice while away from the home network.

Pricing and Availability

The USB 3.0 bus-powered 4TB capacity of the Seagate Backup Plus portable is slated for a mid-July release for $239.99 USD.

The svelte 12mm Seagate Backup Plus Slim is now available in a 500GB capacity for $79.99, 1TB for MSRP $99.99 and 2TB at $129.99 USD, with color options of red, black, silver and blue.

The Seagate Backup Plus Desktop drive is now available in capacities ranging from 2TB for 119.99 to 8TB for $359.99.

Lyve app is available for download now from both the iOS app store and Google Play. The OneDrive Cloud offer is available upon product registration.
