Today Super Micro Computer, Inc. announced its new 4-socket SuperServer supporting 3rd gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors. The new Supermicro SuperServer X-12 leverages both Intel’s new CPUs as well as Intel Optane Persistent Memory 200 series. The new server is aimed at real-time analytics and big data use cases.
The new Supermicro SuperServer X-12 fits four sockets in a 2U footprint. Built of the proven technology of Supermicro history with servers, the new server is also built around Intel’s new Xeon Scalable CPUs. Supermirco states that the new SuperServer X-12 can have up to 112 Xeon cores and up to 18TB of system memory when combined with the new Intel Optane persistent memory 200 series. The company states that CPU interconnects have been doubled from 3 UPI lanes to 6 UPI lanes for vastly improved system latency and throughput. The server also takes advantage of the support of bfloat16 numeric format in Intel Deep Learning Boost (through the new CPUs) to accelerate AI training and inference.
On a non-Intel hardware note, the server comes with 24 hot-swap NVMe drives for better storage performance. The Supermicro SuperServer X-12 has up to 10 PCIe slots that can fit two double width or six single width GPU cards. The PSUs and fans are also hot-swappable to cut down on down time.
