Synology America has announced the public beta of its latest DiskStation Manager operating system, DSM 5.0, introducing users to the first major point-release of the platform-ubiquitous OS in nearly two years. DSM 5.0 comes with a variety of new features and performance enhancements that all consumers will find invaluable.
QuickConnect is now a fully integrated into the OS, which makes it possible for users to access all their data without any complicated router configurations. Since QuickConnect credentials are also uniform across mobile applications–such as DS Photo+, DS Video, and DS File–a data connection is only required to take remote accessibility beyond current limitations.
Additionally, Cloud Station now allows a single client to sync between multiple DiskStations; this makes it possible to keep specific files, file-types, and folders from work and home current across all devices.
DiskStations can also sync between each other without any mediating hardware. Businesses, as well as families, can keep a shared pools of data harmonized whether cities, states, or continents apart.
Central Management System (CMS), which is brand new to DSM 5.0 Beta, is a powerful new utility with the ability to manage multiple Disk or RackStations from a single interface. With the new CMS, clustered arrays can be aggregated to scale to a petabyte of storage as well as the ability to scale-out even further in the near future.
