Today Toshiba Memory America, Inc. announced that on October 1st of this year, it will officially change its new to Kioxia America, Inc. Kioxia (pronounced kee-ox-ee-uh) will be the new name of all Toshiba Memory companies around the same date. The name change is a result of the spin-off of Toshiba Memory from the parent company of Toshiba Corporation last year.

The new name is a combination of the Japanese word kioku meaning “memory” and the Greek word axia meaning “value,” resulting in Kioxia. Kioxia aims to merge memory and value ushering in a new era of memory. The need for storage and memory has rapidly changed over the past few years. Kioxia’s mission is to evolve memory to create uplifting experiences to change the world. Its vision is to take its core progressive memory technology and products, services and systems that create choice and define the future.

While Toshiba Memory was spun off in 2018, it has made several technological advancements recently and when it was under the larger Toshiba banner. The company claims the invention of NAND flash memory in 1987; currently it is producing the latest 3D Flash memory, BiCS FLASH. The company will continue to innovate and help the world rise to meet the challenge of emerging technologies and the ever-increasing need for more dense and more powerful flash storage.
