StorageReview Podcast #43: Jeff Kennedy, Eaton

In this week’s podcast Brian sits down with Jeff Kennedy from Eaton. Brian and Jeff discuss Eaton’s new line of racks designed for edge use cases. Incidentally, StorageReview just had the Eaton MiniRaQ come into the lab, YouTube video coming very soon. The edge racks are designed to be wall-mounted and can fit a full-length server (22-35″) and come in sizes from 2U to 10U. Brian and Jeff also cover off on PDUs, Eaton’s IT Galaxy infographic game and much more.

During the rest of the podcast the team breaks down a bit of a scandal where Western Digital (probably Seagate and Toshiba as well) has replaced some of the traditional Red HDDs with SMR drives, which kills off some of their utility in a NAS. VMworld gets cancelled a physical event, Tom updates us on his love for the new NUC and we dig into the new AMD server CPUs. Brian updates us on teaching his kids about The Clapper “affordable home automation” and Kevin gives sewing lessons. Adam runs down the big news of the week including highlights from AWS, Marvell, VMware and Scality. The AMC pick of the week is The Cabin in the Woods.
