Icy Dock EZ-Fit Pro Dual 2.5 to 3.5 Bracket (MB082SP) Review

Icy Dock is well known for their extensive line of drive adapters that solve dozens of issues around fitting x number of drives into y drive bay slots. The net result of each is that users maximize the number of drives their PC can hold. Icy Dock’s latest iteration on this concept is the EZ-Fit Pro, which takes two 9.5mm 2.5″ SSDs or hard drives and fits them into a 3.5″ drive bracket.

Design and Use

The bracket itself is black metal, completely rigid in design. From there users slide a pair of drives into the slots and a spring mechanism and front latch securely hold the drives in place. Even aggressive swinging of the bracket back and forth doesn’t wiggle the drives inside, thanks to the pressure applied by the spring. To remove the drives, simply push the button on the front and the drive will release out.

Mounting the bracket in a standard 3.5″ bay is simple enough. Icy Dock includes a set of screws for this process and the bracket has mounting holes on the bottom and sides giving users flexibility. This type of mounting enclosure was designed for cases without hot-swap bays that need SATA connectors in a certain position on the front of the drive. Instead this type of mounting adapter works best in standard 3.5-inch drive bays.

Once both drives are in the correct position, the SATA and power connectors are easy to access, although you will need a flat power and SATA cable for the top drive to allow clearance for the bottom drive’s connectors.

Conclusion

The Icy Dock EZ-Fit Pro Dual does its intended job well, letting users cram two 9.5mm SSDs or hard drives into a single 3.5″ desktop bay. The street price of $15 seems more than reasonable, especially when coupled with a three year warranty should anything go awry.
