Design and Build
The Netgear ProSafe GS724T ships with Netgear’s standard color scheme in an easy to rack-mount design. As is pretty standard in this market, almost all of the connectivity is up front aside from the power receptacle.
The front of the Netgear ProSafe GS724T features the copper 10/100/1000 and SFP ports on the right side. The copper ports are in two 12-port segments (each 2×6), which are followed by the SFP ports. On the left side, there are LED indicator lights and a pinhole reset button.
The top of the device features Netgear branding, and the sides are ventilated for passive cooling.
User Interface
While there are of course differences within interfaces related to specific device functionality, Netgear has a predominantly unified user interface via the ProSafe Control Center web GUI, and any IT administrator familiar with Netgear products won’t have any trouble utilizing the GUI. The ProSafe Control center provides access to managing traffic with QoS, VLAN, etc, in a unified interface. Compared to the fully managed switches, the Smart models have a reduced featureset which makes management easier, but also separates them cost-wise from more expensive managed switches. With that said, the interface is the same Web GUI, which makes cross-management very easy since settings are all located in the same area.
As with the Netgear M7100 Switch that we recently reviewed, the device view for the ProSafe GS724T enables users to view their device and which ports are currently in-use. Active ports are highlighted in green, and clicking the connected ports provides configuration settings.
