This year at the Computex conference in Taipei, AMD announced several new solutions that ran the gamut from client to enterprise and both CPU and GPU. AMD releases a slew of new CPU and GPU options for client compute uses and gaming. The company also announced the immediate availability of EPYC processors for a new HPE single-socket system and for the first Cisco UCS Server platform.

On the client side of things, AMD is demoing its 2nd Generation AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors, that feature up to 32 cores and 64 threads. These new processors are aimed at rendering, post production, and encoding workloads. AMD highlighted its OEM network and several of the new notebooks that leverage the Ryzen APUs, 2nd Gen Ryzen desktop processors, and Radeon graphics. These include partners such as Dell, HP, Huawei, ASUS, Acer, and Lenovo. And AMD announced the B450 chipset-based motherboards that are optimized for 2nd generation Ryzen desktop processors.

On the server side of things, Cisco will be offering its first EPYC based UCS server platforms with the company’s highest density of 128% more cores, 50% more servers, and 20% more storage per rack. Cisco will be leveraging the EPYC CPU in its C4200 Series rack server as well as its UCS C125 M5 Rack server node. The UCS C125 M5 will support up to two EPYC processors with up to 32 cores per CPU.

HPE is also releasing an EPYC based server in the HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 one socket server. This 1U server can house 2TB of memory and 40TB of NVMe flash storage. The server is built for virtualization and software-defined storage applications for those that are looking for lower TCO per VM. HPE is also releasing other AMD based solutions including HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10, HP Moonshot solutions, AMD EPYC-based two-socket HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10, and one-socket HPE Cloudline CL3150 Gen10.

AMD EPYC Rome

AMD also announced a new 7nm EPYC processor codenamed “Rome” is in their labs and expected to start sampling to customers in the second half of this year.

Availability

2nd gen Ryzen Threadripper processors are expected to be available in the third quarter of 2018. The Cisco servers with EPYC CPUs are expected the second half of this year. The HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 is expected to be available in July 2018.
