AMD’s new EPYC Embedded 9004 series processors are aimed at industrial, networking, and storage applications outside the traditional data center and cloud environments. The 9004 series is based on AMD’s “Zen 4” 5nm process; AMD is offering 10 models ranging from 16 cores/32 threads to 96 cores/192 threads, with power profiles between 200 and 400 watts.

Key features specific to the EPYC Embedded 9004 series include:

  • Non-Transparent Bridging (NTB): Enables data exchange between two redundant CPUs.
  • Non-Volatile Dual In-Line Memory Module (NVDIMM) support: This hybrid volatile DRAM/non-volatile Flash memory retains data after a power failure for improved chances of data recovery.
  • Dual Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI): Supports secure booting off two off-chip ROMs.

Another key selling point for the EPYC 9004 Embedded series is its seven-year availability, which means embedded customers can save money certifying platforms with guaranteed future support.

The EPYC Embedded 9004 series also support the following:

  • 128 PCIe lanes (single socket) up to PCIe 5.0, or up to 160 lanes (dual socket).
  • Support for 32 SATA devices.
  • 12 memory channels and 6TB DDR5-4800 ECC per socket, with 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12-channel interleaving.

Models in the EPYC 9004 Embedded series include:
