Avere Systems has announced that they had raised an additional $20 million in venture financing. The funding was led by Western Digital Capital, and followed by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Menlo Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners, and Tenaya Capital. Avere says the funding will be used for accelerating sales, marketing, and continued development of the company’s hybrid cloud storage solutions.
Avere is ushering in a new era of enterprise-class hybrid storage. They have developed a flexible, software-defined storage tiering methodology that fosters intelligent use of multiple storage technologies in order to negate the weaknesses of one type of media or accelerate underutilized strengths in another. Avere utilizes this method versus the trend of purchasing bigger storage servers with huge capacities and then connecting them to higher-bandwidth pipes.
The three breakthroughs that they believe are most responsible for the new hybrid storage that provides organizations with unprecedented amounts of choice when it comes to storage type, location, budget and vendor selection are: Enterprise NAS performance in the cloud, zero-pain migrations, and effortless provisioning.
Enterprise NAS Performance in the Cloud
Using Avere FlashCloud, users get enterprise-class NAS functionality, including NFS and CIFS protocols, scalable performance, and high-availability, to support any applications running on NAS. Users won't have to change existing applications or user access methods they are familiar with while getting all the advantages of cloud storage.
Key advantages include:
Zero-Pain Migration
With FlashMove no applications have to be rewritten for cloud storage. If a business is using an on premise NAS they can now make the storage change to cloud storage in real time. This could save tremendous amounts of time for IT departments and allow business to scale up as requirements demand.
Key advantages include:
Effortless Provisioning
With less dependence on physical storage equipment, now that the cloud is a viable option, business will be able to switch vendors at will. Not only can this save money if a vendor offers a better option, it can aide overall performance as IT departments can select different vendors for different needs.
