Last week, Cisco and IBM Services partnered to roll out a managed private cloud-as-a-service (CaaS / IaaS). Cisco was founded in 1984 and provides a wide range of networking, telecommunications, and data center hardware. IBM was founded in 1911 and is one of the oldest and most famous manufacturer and researcher of computer components and super computers.
Cisco and IBM Services’s new Managed Private Cloud-as-a-service for x86 that is powered by Cisco UCS. This is a natural evolution of their partnership last year when the two companies melded their data center and cloud technologies. IBM Services showcased the solution at Cisco Live Barcelona 2020, which just ended. There are two “flavors” of this fully managed private cloud: a solution based on widely popular virtualization software, VMware; and a solution based on RedHat’s open-source Kubernetes platform, OpenShift.
For both flavors, IBM not only installs and manages the compute environment, they also provide tools for support and enhancement requests. Support includes 24x7x365 operational support, monitoring, and 4 nines of infrastructure availability. In addition, the offering places a high priority on security, proactive monitoring, and reporting. To provide this solution, IBM leverages Cisco Intersight and its own decades of experience in managing customer infrastructure.
