Cohesity Announces Solutions With VSAN & vRealize Automation

Today Cohesity introduced new solutions that are aimed at simplifying secondary storage in VMware environments. These new solutions work with VMware Virtual SAN (VSAN) and VMware vRealize Automation and allow Cohesity DataPlatform and DataProtect customers to use VSAN and vRealize Automation to offer full policy-based automation on scale-out and hyperconverged infrastructure for both primary and secondary data. Cohesity claims that by using its new solutions, companies will be able to converge and simplify their data protection infrastructure with automation, instant recovery, and more efficient provisioning, all while lowering total cost of ownership.

Lots of enterprises have taken advantage of VMware’s Storage Policy-Based Management (SPBM) and VSAN. VMware’s technology has really made a huge impact on primary storage. Cohesity’s main area of focus is secondary storage, which they state makes up over 80% of all enterprise data. Cohesity states that the secondary storage landscape is fragmented and needlessly complicated. This complication is making secondary storage difficult to manage and costly.

Cohesity works to reduce complexity and costs of secondary storage. As we previously wrote, the Cohesity Data Platform is a hyperconverged secondary storage platform that, in their words, enables enterprises to take control of snowballing data growth and complex storage environments. Cohesity goes on to claim that customers can reduce their footprint by 80% while realizing immediate cost efficiencies by starting with backup. Customers using VSAN for their primary data can use the new solution to provide a simple, cost-effective, and high-performance infrastructure for both primary and secondary storage. Customers using vRealize Automation will see similar to the above, as they now can extend the benefits of policy-based automation to data protection and secondary workflows.
