Today at its first FutureReady virtual event, Commvault announced its new Commvault Intelligent Data Management Portfolio. The new announcements center on new additions to the company’s existing portfolio including Commvault Backup & Recovery, Commvault Disaster Recovery, Commvault Complete Data Protection and Commvault HyperScale X. Aside from the new offerings, the company announced its flexible subscription pricing, which will be better for its customers and put it more in line with its competitors.
The new Commvault Intelligent Data Management Portfolio takes some of the things Commvault is known for and expands on them. For example, Commvault Backup & Recovery sounds like something they already had, but it is a new standalone product for ensuring data availability for all workloads (including containers, cloud-native, and virtual) and spans both on-prem and cloud environments. Commvault Disaster Recovery also sounds like an existing product but is the company’s comprehensive disaster recovery product that also spans both on-prem and cloud to ensure business continuity and verify recoverability. Commvault Complete Data Protection is a combination of the two above products with additional enhancements of data insights and governance solutions, rich Kubernetes support in the Hedvig Distributed Storage Platform, and broader availability of Commvault’s subscription-based licensing model.
Commvault HyperScale X is the latest version of the company’s fully integrated scale-out data management solution. This also marks the first product that integrates Hedvig technology since the integration of the two companies. Commvault states that HyperScale X can provide unmatched scalability, security and resiliency to accelerate an organization’s digital transformation journey as they move to hybrid cloud, container and virtualized environments. HyperScale X leverages Hedvig’s file system’s scale-out capabilities to deliver higher performance in backup and recovery. Other benefits are said to include:
Though containers are briefly mentioned above, they are taking a central role in every part of digital transformations and the tech world. To this end, Commvault announced new enhancements to the Hedvig Distributed Storage Platform for Kubernetes running in hybrid and multi-cloud environments. As just about everyone is leveraging Kubernetes, Commvault announced new native API Kubernetes enhancements in the Hedvig Distributed Storage Platform. These enhancements are said to provide users with the flexibility to develop and run new modern applications with encryption and third-party KMIP support for data security in any Kubernetes environment.
Key features include:
Flexible and subscription pricing have really taken off over the last few years. Starting at the cloud, cloud-like pricing has great appeal to organizations that need flexibility and are more OPEX-based. Commvault already has some subscription licensing (just over 40% of its software). The company is expanding on this today with the new offerings to be available in such a manner.
