Crucial Expands Its MX300 Line

Crucial announced today that it was expanding its MX300 line of SSDs to include other capacities. We reviewed the MX300 last month when it was only offered in a capacity of 750GB.  The new capacities the drive is offered in are 275GB, 525GB, and 1TB. Crucial also announced an M.2 form factor of the drive will be release next month in what it states as “all capacities.”

As we previously said, the MX300 leverages Micron’s new 3D TLC NAND. Crucial reports transfer speeds of 530MB/s read and 510MB/s write, as well as an endurance rating of 220 TBW. Through our testing we found the drive to have strong performance in our HTPC and random 4K write benchmarks. The price per gigabyte is also an attractive option with this drive. One of the points of contention we had with the drive was the lack of capacity options that Crucial has now addressed.

Features include:

  • AES 256-bit hardware-based encryption to keep personal and confidential data secure
  • RAIN technology for increased reliability by storing data in multiple locations on the drive
  • Exclusive Data Defense to prevent files from becoming corrupted
  • Adaptive Thermal Protection to keep systems cool
