Today, Dell announced several new solutions and reference designs for high-performance computing at ISC High Performance 2019. The ISC High Performance conference has been running annually in Europe since 1986 and was previously known as the International Supercomputing Conference.

The first announcement from Dell at the conference was that one of their divisions, Dell EMC, has added Deep Learning with Intel to its portfolio of products that it calls Ready Solutions for AI. Dell EMC’s Ready Solutions for AI is a set of standardized infrastructure stacks for machine learning and deep learning. Deep Learning with Intel includes all the hardware, software, and services customers need to get up and running quickly. The equipment is a scale-out cluster consisting of a single Dell EMC PowerEdge R740xd master/login node and 16 Dell EMC PowerEdge C6420 dense compute servers in four C6000 chassis. Each compute node is interconnected with both a 1 gigabit Ethernet connection for access to the external network and Internet and a 10 gigabit Ethernet connection for internal traffic and data movement. On the software side, Dell EMC has integrated and validated Intel's Nauta platform. Nauta uses Kubernetes and Docker to provide a multi-user, distributed deep learning environment.

The second announcement from Dell at the conference was that Dell EMC is expanding its Ready Solutions for HPC Digital Manufacturing. Altair HyperWorks, ANSYS Fluent, ANSYS Mechanical, Dassault Systèmes SIMULIA, LSTC LS-DYNA, and Siemens' Simcenter STAR-CCM+ software are all getting updated and\or new designs. The new Ready Solutions for HPC Digital Manufacturing designs leverage Dell EMC PowerEdge servers, PowerSwitch networking, and PowerVault storage. The new designs also benefit from the 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors available now in several PowerEdge servers, including the four-socket PowerEdge R840.

The third announcement from Dell at the conference was that Dell Technologies unveiled new relationships with appliedAI and MOSAICrOWN. Both appliedAI and MOSAICrOWN will receive access to computing cycles from Dell Technologies' supercomputing system Zenith. Based in Germany, appliedAI is one of Europe's largest non-profit initiatives for the application of artificial intelligence technology. It is Part of UnternehmerTUM and aims to accelerate the adoption of AI. The MOSAICrOWN project seeks to create new privacy-preserving data markets for data sharing and collaborative analytics in multi-owner scenarios. The project consortium is led by the University of Milan and includes partners such as Dell Technologies, Mastercard and SAP. The Dell Technologies research team based in Cork, Ireland, is leading the effort to develop secure data market solutions for the intelligent connected vehicle industry.

At the same time they were announcing their new products in Germany, Dell also made completed a key achievement halfway around the world in the USA. The new Dell Technologies supercomputer, “Frontera” at Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at The University of Texas, has made its debut today on the new TOP500 List of the most powerful systems in the world – ranked at No 5.

Availability

  • Dell EMC Ready Solutions for AI, Deep Learning with Intel is available now in select countries with worldwide availability expected in Q4 of 2019.
