Dell’s PS6210 storage arrays will be available this month, representing a new generation for Dell’s EqualLogic platform with up to three times random read performance improvement compared to predecessor PS6110XS arrays. The announcement also introduces new functionality for EqualLogic Array Software 7.0, EqualLogic SAN Headquarters 3.0, and new support for the Fluid File System (FluidFS) v3 on EqualLogic FS7610/7600 NAS appliances.
Dell EqualLogic PS62210
Six new EqualLogic PS6210 models include all-flash, hybrid and all-HDD options, with higher specifications than the PS6110XS across throughput, processing power, memory, and storage controllers. Dell argues that the new EqualLogic PS6210 demonstrates how all-flash storage can compete on price with HDD storage systems. According to company benchmarks, one SSD-equipped PS6210S can outperform four PS6210XV arrays equipped with 15k HDDs at a lower cost when benchmarked with a 70/30 read/write random workload with 8K block size. The PS6110XS can also support 2.4 times the virtual desktops than a PS6110XS in a Dell LoginVSI VDI workload generator benchmark, and double the OLTP database workload with half the latency of the PS6110XS.

Dell Fluid File System
Dell today also announced the upcoming availability of Dell Fluid File System (FluidFS) v3 for FS7610 and FS7600 NAS appliances, the file system which unifies block and file management functionality in EqualLogic environments. Both NAS appliances are unified block and file storage devices intended to support rapid deployment into EqualLogic environments. Dell’s analysis of its new Fluid Data Reduction for FluidFS indicates 48% space saved through compression and deduplication paired with a FS8600 NAS appliance using a home share environment comprised of Office files (21%), .GZ (19%) and .flate (19%) files, and other common types. FluidFS v3 also brings expanded protocol support and new third-party certifications, including healthcare picture archiving and communications system vendors.
EqualLogic Array Software 7.0
EqualLogic Array Software 7.0 brings streamlined policy-based access controls and an updated user interface to the platform and remains available at no cost to customers with support contracts. A 64-bit version for new arrays integrates with a 32-bit version used for existing infrastructure. Version 7.0 also adds transparent support for new 4K sector drives and volumes in EqualLogic arrays. EqualLogic environments can support up to ten generations of storage arrays in a SAN with a single administrative interface to manage data, load balance, and scale.
SAN HQ
SAN Headquarters 3.0 is the latest edition of Dell’s SAN monitoring software that works across multiple EqualLogic groups in order to support new platform management functionality added in the Array Software update. SAN Headquarters 3.0 also expands automated support case creation and enhanced case tracking when used with Dell SupportAssist customer support.
Availability
The Dell EqualLogic PS6210 Series and FS7610/00 with Fluid FS v3 will be available this month.
