Recently Dell Inc. announced a new solution to support to the growing customer demand of in storage requirements for video surveillance, Fluid File Video Solution. Video surveillance and cameras are creeping into every place imaginable, whether it is for security or analytical purposes. Not only are their cameras almost everywhere, they are using better and better resolution cameras that generate even more data that needs to be stored.

In recent years video surveillance has moved from analog to digital. The switch to digital eases some of the problems organizations came into such as being able to quickly store, access, and search the data. The use of IP-based cameras and modern networking makes using video management software and back-end storage easier while giving companies more flexibility. Dell recognized these growing scalability needs and is now offering its Fluid File Video Solution to scale along with the needs. Users can start on the lower end with 56TB and scale up to 1PB raw if they require longer retention policies.

Dell’s Fluid File Video Solution is a combination of its Dell Storage FS8600 scale-out NAS appliance with Dell Storage SCv2080 dense SAN array. This new solution has the ability to scale out NAS controllers for performance meaning it can support more camera and HD cameras that need a higher streaming rate. To avoid overspending and tailor the solution to the needs of the business, storage and performance can be scaled separately. The Dell Fluid File Video Solution is also an attractive choice from a TCO perspective as it can offer up to 1PB of raw capacity for as low as $0.18/GB, while also keeping cooling and power costs down.

All storage is managed within Dell Enterprise Manager through a single user experience cutting down on the complexity. To further simplify the management all of the storage is virtual meaning is no complex LUN management required or understanding on how to deal with disk aggregates needed. So far Milestone Video Management Software has been certified on Dell Fluid File Video Solution with many more providers coming over the next several months, including Genetec.

Availability

Dell Fluid File Video Solution is available now in the Americas and Asia.
