Today Dell EMC announced new 14th generation PowerEdge servers with the AMD EPYC processors instead of Intel. The three new servers, PowerEdge R6415, PowerEdge R7415, and PowerEdge R7425, are designed for software-defined environments, the edge, and high-performance computing (HPC). The company states that the new servers can offer up to 20% better TCO per four-node cluster for vSAN deployments at the edge.
AMD launched its new EPYC data center CPU last June. The company said its new EPYC processors combine security features, enterprise class reliability, and support a full feature-set. AMD goes on to claim that at “every targeted price point for two-socket processors, EPYC outperforms the competition, with up to 70% more performance in the eight hundred dollar price band and up to 47% more performance at the high-end of the market of four thousand dollars or more.”
AMD is now combining the promise of performance with Dell EMC’s proven PowerEdge server Technology. The CPUs offer up to 32 cores (64 threads), 8 memory channels and 128 PCIe lanes lending even more flexibility, performance and security features found in the PowerEdge line. The three new EPYC-powered servers will come with scalable business architecture and intelligent automation PowerEdge are known for as well as iDRAC9 and Quick Sync 2 management support.
The three main use cases include:
