Today HP announced that it has refreshed its mobile workstation line as well as its EliteBook line of business notebooks. This includes new additions to its HP EliteBook 800 Series, new 14u and newly refreshed 15u HP ZBooks (with the 14u being the thinnest mobile workstation in the world), and tools such as new endpoint security solutions and a new Thunderbolt dock. The company also announced four new 4K displays.
The workforce is more mobile than ever. Workers work from several locations including at home. This mobility means that they need the tools to get the job done while keeping company information secure and having the ability to easily collaborate. HP is addressing these issues in its new mobile workstation revamp. This includes the addition of HP’s premium design language to its new workstations, previously only available on EliteBook 1000 series workstations. The new workstations have also passed MIL-STD-810G testing proving durability. And the workstations are ENERGY STAR certified as well as EPEAT Gold registered.
The HP EliteBook 800 Series has several appealing features such as a world-facing, noise-cancelling microphone, 8th generation Intel Core vPro CPUs, and 14 hours of battery life. New to the line is the HP EliteBook 830 G5 that replaces the previous HP EliteBook 820 G4 with a 13-inch screen in a 12-inch notebook profile. The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is the thinnest 14” business notebook. And both the 840 and 850 G5 come with AMD Radeon RX540 GPUs.
On the mobile workstation side of things, the 14u and 15u will feature HP Sure View, an integrated privacy screen. Both of the workstations feature 8th generation Intel Core Quad Core CPUs with vPro technology and AMD Radeon Pro graphics. The HP ZBook 14u G5 is the world’s thinnest workstation (measuring 17.99 mm and weighing just 3.27 lbs.). The 14u comes with an optional touchscreen. The HP ZBook 15u G5 has been refreshed with support for Intel Core i5 and i7 Core CPUs and now up to 2TB of HP Z Turbo Drive storage.
New workstations look great and function well, but shouldn’t be on a cluttered workspace. To this end HP introduced a new HP Thunderbolt Dock G2. This versatile dock enables support for both HP and non-HP devices that have Thunderbolt and USB-C connectivity. The dock is compact while providing power and connection to multiple devices as well as up to two 4K displays. It also comes with an optional audio conferencing module.
The dock as well as any of the above mobile units can be paired with the company’s new 4K displays. The company has three new Z displays, HP Z27, Z32, and Z43 (the company’s largest 4K display) and a new EliteDisplay S270n. The EliteDisplay S270n can pull video and data and send up to 60W of power to the PC with just one USB-C cable connection. The Z displays all have 10-bit color and a USB-C connection.
To tackle the security issues that arise with mobile computing, HP has its new and newly refreshed mobile computing devices include HP’s Endpoint Security Controller. This is an embedded hardware controller that monitors, protects and recovers the BIOS, the operating system, and critical applications in the event of an attack. Security enable includes:
