Dell EMC is announcing several new services and products at Dell Technologies World in Las Vegas. Included in those is the creation of the Dell EMC VxFlex family (previously ScaleIO and VxRack FLEX) of appliances and related products that target the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) market.

Dell plans to release a new VxFlex turnkey appliance this July. The first such Dell EMC appliance offers a smaller starting point and networking flexibility compared to their existing VxRack FLEX system which is being rebranded as part of the VxFlex family to VxFlex integrated rack. Unlike its much bigger VxFlex brother, which is a rack-scale platform built on Dell PowerEdge servers, the new VxFlex appliance targets customers who don’t need all the power and cost of a full rack. VxFlex appliances will still provide the same turnkey experience and run the same Dell EMC VxFlex OS that VxFlex integrated rack customers are familiar with.

At the same time as the name change from VxRack FLEX to VxFlex integrated rack, it will be getting its own set of upgrades. Dell says they are upgrading the system components for improved performance, automation, and security. Part of those component upgrades is probably the inclusion of Dell EMC PowerSwitch S5248, the first 25GbE switch certified for SmartFabric Service, which is also being announced at Dell Technologies World

Dell EMC VxFlex OS is getting an update to version 3.0 as well.

Availability

Dell EMC VxFlex integrated systems, including both the new appliance and rebranded integrated rack, and enhancements to VxFlex Manager will be available in July 2019

Dell EMC VxFlex OS 3.0 is available for VxFlex Ready Nodes now and will be for VxFlex appliance and integrated rack in July 2019.
