Today Dell EMC is expanding its hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) by combining the former two companies technologies once again. Dell EMC’s is taking its VxRack software-defined data center (SDDC) and is now basing it on PowerEdge servers. According to the company, this combination will enhance flexibility while increasing performance.
EMC introduced the VxRack with VMware SDDC node back in May of this year. As we wrote at the time, VxRack with VMware SDDC Nodes is purpose-built for IT organizations that have standardized on VMware software defined datacenter cloud technologies and want the best foundation for a wide variety of enterprise workloads. These VMware centric enterprises data centers and Service Providers want an easy-to-deploy software-defined architecture optimized for a wide range of traditional enterprise workloads. The SDDC Nodes comprise of hardware and software components including VMware vSphere Enterprise, VMware Virtual SAN, VMware NSX, vCenter Server, and key components of VMware vRealize Suite. The VMware technologies are used in data centers at hundreds of thousands of mid- to the largest- scale organizations. Customers gain single pane of glass visibility and control for both physical and virtual resources. Now Dell EMC is adding PowerEdge servers as the foundation to the VxRack to increase reliability, performance, and manageability.
From the above we see tight software integration from VMware. The VxRack is also currently the only turn-key SDDC hyperconverged solution that works with VMware. The VxRack SDDC includes racks, networking, physical asset security and cable management, basically everything needed for its physical infrastructure. The VxRack scales from as few as 8 nodes up to 192 nodes across 8 racks. This means businesses can start small and scale as their needs demand it.
New VxRack specifications:
Dell EMC offers both the VxRail and the VxRack so customers can buy the right option for their needs or buy options for both the data center and the edge.
