Dell Technologies Omniverse Solution Announced

For the most part, we don’t report on a lot of press releases, but when Dell Technologies latest news blurb mentioned the 2011 science fiction novel Ready Player One by Ernest Cline in its opening paragraph we knew that we had to take a deeper look. This announcement discusses two new solutions from Dell in collaboration with NVIDIA and Intel. One is a Dell Validated Design for VDI using NVIDIA Omniverse, while the other is a Dell Validated Design for AI | MLOps with cnvrg.io.

This announcement discusses two new solutions from Dell in collaboration with NVIDIA and Intel. One is a Dell Validated Design for VDI using NVIDIA Omniverse, while the other is a Dell Validated Design for AI | MLOps with cnvrg.io.

Dell Technologies Omniverse Solution

The Dell Technologies VDI solution, which we find intriguing, uses NVIDIA’s Omniverse technology to enable people to work in a virtual 3D world. Initially, Dell sees creative types such as content creators, designers, and engineers benefiting from it as it allows them to collaborate in a virtual workspace. To efficiently and quickly create workspaces requires a lot of forethought with regards to the hardware and software selection; to expedite this Dell has released a validated design.

This solution is based on VMware vSphere and Horizon, NVIDIA RTX vWS and Omniverse Enterprise software, NVIDIA-Certified Dell VxRail 670F hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), PowerEdge R750 servers, PowerSwitch networking, and PowerScale F800 storage.

The secret sauce is ebb3 which specializes in designing, building and managing accelerator-enabled virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) platforms. One of ebb3’s early accomplishments was building a virtual factory floor that allowed engineers to simulate a company’s manufacturing processes before implementing them in physical form. This allowed the company to work out any kinks in a virtual world.

The other announcement is a validated design that will exploit cnvrg.io machine learning (ML) capabilities. The main focus of this partnership is data scientists as they claim that they can bring ML models into production in half the time over using existing tools. When AI becomes practical and widely used it will radically transform the way we do business, however, it has been a long, slow slog. Hopefully, solutions such as this will help accelerate it.

According to cnvrg.io data, scientists spend around half of their time allocating and managing IT resources instead of building, testing, and implementing ML models. By using cnvrg.io based solutions it can greatly reduce the time needed to bring ML models into production.

To assist in this Dell Technologies has an AI-Ready Platform, which includes NVIDIA AI Enterprise, VMware vSphere with Tanzu, NVIDIA-Certified Dell VxRail HCI or PowerEdge servers with NVIDIA A100 and A30 Tensor Core GPUs, PowerScale storage and PowerSwitch and NVIDIA networking. Interestingly this also is available as an APEX Custom Solutions at a subscription rate.

We have done a fair amount of work with Dell Technologies and NVIDIA in the past using VDI and AI/ML, like AI LaunchPad, and look forward to getting some hands-on time with these solutions.
