EMC Hybrid Cloud Solution Announced

EMC has announced the EMC Hybrid Cloud solution, enabling IT organizations to quickly, easily, and cost-effectively build a hybrid cloud that leverages the best of both worlds. With a hybrid cloud, IT organizations are able to broker services from private and public clouds, which enable visibility and control over the best location to run business applications. The solution also helps to profile applications and identify the most efficient, secure, and cost-effective IT operational model across both private and public clouds.

EMC has announced the EMC Hybrid Cloud solution, enabling IT organizations to quickly, easily, and cost-effectively build a hybrid cloud that leverages the best of both worlds. With a hybrid cloud, IT organizations are able to broker services from private and public clouds, which enable visibility and control over the best location to run business applications. The solution also helps to profile applications and identify the most efficient, secure, and cost-effective IT operational model across both private and public clouds.

EMC’s Hybrid Cloud solution is a new end-to-end reference architecture built upon EMC’s private cloud solutions, which allows customers to quickly integrate with multiple public clouds to create a unified hybrid cloud. Additionally, the solution enhances the performance, security, and compliance of an organization’s private cloud with compatible, on-demand services from EMC-powered Cloud Service Providers.

Comprised of technologies from across EMC Federation of Companies, the new solution is based on a Software-Defined Data Center architecture: EMC storage and data protection, Pivotal CF Platform-as-a- service (PaaS) and the Pivotal Big Data Suite, VMware cloud management and virtualization solutions, and VMware vCloud Hybrid Service. The EMC Hybrid Cloud solution currently supports VMware environments, with OpenStack and Microsoft environments support coming in the near future.

A new suite of EMC foundational services have the ability to aid customers in quickly implementing the EMC Hybrid Cloud solutions within their IT environment. Once the solution is deployed, customers can take advantage of EMC’s portfolio of advanced services in order to capitalize on all of the benefits provided by a hybrid cloud, application modernization, workload migration, and IT-as-a-Service (ITaaS) models.

The new EMC Hybrid Cloud solution addresses requirements of IT, developers and lines of business, including:

• The EMC Hybrid Cloud Business User: Users will experience an easy to use self-service portal that offers a personalized catalog of services and are charged only for what they use. This environment is housed in a safe and secure data center that provides lower costs and better efficiency, and enterprise-class service levels.
• The EMC Hybrid Cloud Developer: Developers will have on-demand access to the most modern and consistent development environments, leveraging popular programing frameworks such as Java, Ruby, Node.js, and Scala, as well as a wide variety of SQL and NoSQL database technologies.
• The EMC Hybrid Cloud IT Professional: In addition to benefiting from the solution’s support for both private and public clouds, IT professionals will benefit from best of breed technology composition, ease of deployment and more effective IT management, smarter health and performance monitoring, and 100% control over what their users can provision.

This week at EMC World 2014 in Las Vegas, implementation engineers from EMC Global Services and EMC Engineering will attempt to build a Hybrid Cloud in two days or less based on the EMC Hybrid Cloud reference architecture featuring Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), PaaS, Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS), Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS), automated monitoring and metering and usage transparency, as well as continuous availability. In addition, EMC will also display application mobility to off-premises service providers, such as VMware vCloud Hybrid Service and EMC Cloud Service Provider partners including Canopy, CSC, Dimension Data, and Rackspace. The demonstration will also showcase the deployment of mission critical applications from Microsoft, Oracle, and SAP in addition to Pivotal CF Platform as a Service. Powered by Cloud Foundry, Pivotal CF Platform as a Service delivers an always-available, turnkey experience for scaling and updating applications in the hybrid cloud.
