Fujitsu announced the launch of their new hyper-scale storage system, the ETERNUS CD10000. The ETERNUS CD10000 is designed specifically to handle the storage needs of Big Data as it crosses the "Petabyte divide."

Big Data represents a massive struggle for IT organizations and it is still growing rapidly. With Big Data, IT has to struggle with scalability, the complexity and cost, and future physical limitations of mitigating data between storage systems without major disruptions. Big Data is forcing organizations to keep tens of petabytes (PB) online at all times. 1PB is equal to about 100,000 hours of 1080p video.

Fujitsu is addressing these concerns with the ETERNUS CD10000, the first system that has "truly unlimited scalability" and "no-limits storage capacity." At launch the system will have 56PB (56,000TB) of raw capacity and can have up to 224 storage nodes. This is just the start; Fujitsu plans on introducing updates with even more scalability next year. This system allows new storage nodes to added, exchanged, and upgraded with no downtime and it is backwards-compatible so old and new nodes work together. The system will be ideal for any environment where online data is growing at an explosive rate such as cloud service providers, financial, media, and business analytics.

The ETERNUS CD10000 software is based on the open source-based software from Red Hat and Inktank Ceph Enterprise. This delivers comprehensive management and support services through a single pane of glass. Customers can rely on the delivery of "true enterprise-class service levels for a storage system based on open source software." Customers will have a unified view of block, object, and file storage in a single distributed storage cluster.

Key features and benefits include:

  • Nearly unlimited and flexible scalability of capacity and performance
  • Pay as you grow. No unnecessary upfront investments
  • No forced migration through scalability limits
  • Fault tolerance and self-healing by design
  • Based on Ceph open source storage software
  • No vendor lock-in
  • Seamless integration in OpenStack environments
  • Supporting object, file and block storage
  • System platform with end-to-end maintenance
  • High performance through high parallelism of read and write operations
  • High I/O performance can be achieved at lower costs

Availability and pricing

The Fujitsu ETERNUS CD10000 is available now and can be ordered directly through Fujitsu or through its select circle partners. Pricing varies by model, configuration, and region.
