GIGABYTE has released the new S451-3R0 storage server, featuring a dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors and configurations up to 36 x 3.5” + 2 x 2.5” SSDs/HDDs. As a result, the S451-3R0 provides businesses with performance, capacity and flexibility it needs to excel for block or object storage, streaming media, big data use cases, and when high performance during heavy workloads is required.
Each CPU socket of the Intel Xeon Scalable processors supports the highest CPU thermal design power requirement of 205W, while Intel's Omni-Path connection technology works to eliminate CPU to network latency. Moreover, the six memory channels per CPU with two DIMM slots per channel support DDR4 memory and, depending on the CPU model, can handle a maximum of 1.5TB per CPU.
The S451-3R0 also has a pretty impressive storage capacity via its front-loaded 24 x 3.5” hot-swappable HDD/SSDs and 12 x 3.5” and 2 x 2.5” hot-swappable HDD/SSD bays located on the back of the server (the rear bays can be used as an OS boot device). Users can also attach a storage adapter via the 4 x PCIe (Gen3 x 16) slots and 1 x OCP (Gen3 x16) mezzanine slot. GIGABYTE gives you the option of using one of their storage adaptors or your own legacy storage adaptors or RAID cards. As far as networking goes, the S451-3R0 comes equipped with standard dual 10Gb/s SFP+ LAN ports, an additional 2 x 1Gb/s LAN ports and a dedicated management LAN port. The S451-3R0 also features a chassis design that uses a standard E-ATX form factor motherboard, giving users the option to choose an alternative motherboard solution instead (e.g., Intel Xeon D or AMD EPYC based solutions) for further customization needs.
GIGABYTE has implemented some pretty useful high-availability features as well, including easy-swap fans and hot-swap redundant power supply units. Additionally, its tool-less drive bays and rail kits help lower the overall cost of maintenance.
