Today HP made a slew of announcements at the 2015 National Association of Broadcasters in Las Vegas. These announcements centered on workstations, both desktop and mobile, and professional displays to areas that appeal to the creative professional. For workstations, HP is releasing the second generation of the Z Turbo Drive as well as a new mobile workstation, the HP Omen Pro, which is much thinner and lighter than their current mobile workstations. HP is also announcing new monitors including a large 32” 4K monitor and several ultra-narrow bezel monitors.
Z Turbo Gen 2
We previously reviewed the Z Turbo PCIe SSD in our Z620 Workstation Review, and we found it to have impressive numbers in our 2MB sequential/random transfer performance tests and sequential read and write speeds of 1.5GB/s and 1.4GB/s respectively. The next generation Z Turbo PCIe SSD, powered by Samsung NVMe technology, claims twice the performance of its predecessor. The Z Turbo Gen 2 PCIe SSD supports Z440, Z640, and Z840 workstations (as either boot or data drives), comes in 256GB and 512GB capacities, and caries the same price as the previous generation.
