Today IBM unveiled two new all-flash enterprise storage solutions, the FlashSystem V9000 and the FlashSystem 900. These two new all-flash solutions are aimed at helping organizations by providing industry-leading performance, reliability, and efficiency by accelerating data-intensive applications, all the while lower costs.
Flash is becoming a larger player in enterprise storage by the day. As Big Data grows everyday businesses are looking for a way to capitalize on it and Flash storage is one of the solutions that will transform this flood of information into tangible value. In April of 2013 IBM invested a billion dollars in flash storage research, partnerships, product development, enhancements to flash sales and support infrastructures, and 12 new Centers of Competency across the globe. Out of this investment came FlashSystem storage. IBM has since been able to reduce data processing by 75%, reducing a 45-minute job to 6 minutes.
IBM's new solutions will help organizations to "unleash the power of big data, achieve real-time business insights, make better decisions, and gain competitive advantage." The FlashSystem V9000 is for businesses that want to consolidate their existing storage systems under one management domain, and implement leading-edge virtualization and storage services, and offers the advantages of software-defined storage. The FlashSystem 900 is for companies that want fast deployment, high performance, enterprise-grade reliability, and macro efficiency.
IBM's FlashSystem solutions feature Micron's MLC flash chip technology, taking advantage of the chip's density and cost benefits. However, the heart of the new all-flash solutions is IBM's FlashCore technology. FlashCore is a suite of innovations and capabilities that enables FlashSystem to deliver better performance than enterprise disk systems. These enhancements translate into real benefits for clients; in one case a client, Coca-Cola, was able to go from processing 100,000 data points a day to 3.5 million data points a day. Other customers who are looking to build cost-effective cloud architecture, gain insight from analytics quickly, engage with mobile customers more often, or are looking to prevent cyber fraud and data security threats will be turning to technology such as FalshCore and the solutions it powers, IBM's FlashSystem.
