International Data Corporation (IDC) ran its quarterly Worldwide Server Tracker for the second quarter, this time for worldwide converged systems market, which reported an increase of 9.9% year over year to $3.5 billion during the second quarter of 2018.
In certified reference systems and integrated infrastructure market segment, the report shows a revenue of $1.3 billion–a year-over-year decline of 13.9% representing 38.1% of total converged systems revenue. Nonetheless, Dell showed its dominance once again as the largest supplier in this market segment with $639.8 million in sales, which translates to a 47.5% share. Cisco/NetApp generated $481.0 million in sales and the second largest share with 35.7%. HPE generated $108.4 million in sales, representing 8.1% market share.
For Integrated platforms, sales declined 12.5% year over year during the second quarter, generating revenues of $729.4 million. This amounted to 20.7% of the total converged systems market revenue. The tracker also shows Oracle as the top-ranked supplier of integrated platforms during Q2 2018 with revenues amounting to $440.6 million for an impressive 60.4% share of this market segment.
Looking at the branded view of the hyperconverged systems market, Dell was the leading supplier with $418.7 million in revenue and a 28.8% share, while Nutanix generated $275.3 million in branded revenue with an 18.9% share. Cisco and HPE showed a virtual tie with $77.7 million and $72.0 million in revenue, respectively, though HPE showed a massive revenue growth of 119.4%.
Looking at software ownership for this market, systems that ran Nutanix's hyperconverged software represented $497.7 million in total for Q2 2018 vendor revenue. Those running VMware's hyperconverged software represented almost an identical $495.8 million in revenue for this quarter.
