Intel has launched the new DC S3700 series of MLC flash SATA SSDs that the company says achieve 2x read and 15x write performance improvements over Intel’s SSD 710 drives. The new SSDs will be offered at 100, 200, 400, and 800GB capacities, in 2.5-inch and limited 1.8-inch form factors. SSD DC S3700 drives use Intel 25nm NAND HET MLC modules and incorporate Intel’s High Endurance Technology (HET) that tunes MLC memory for enterprise reliability. HET enables the Intel SSD DC S3700 Series to promise 10 full drive writes per day of wear over the 5-year life of the drive. DCS3700 drives are also designed with an extra bank of memory to cache data that is being written in order to protect against power failures.
According to Intel, the SSD DC S3700 achieves 4KB random read performance of up to 75,000 IOPS and 4KB write performance of up to 36,000 IOPS. The DC S3700 has also attained a typical sequential write latency of 65 microseconds and Quality of Service (QOS) of less than 500 microseconds 99.9 percent of the time in Intel benchmarks.
