Intel has announced the next generation M15 Intel Optane memory, featuring performance enhancements over its predecessor, the M10. Designed for 7th Gen or later Intel Core platforms, the Intel Optane memory M15 features two extra PCIe lanes, which allow for higher throughput bandwidth to significantly improve system acceleration and responsiveness. In addition, the next-gen Optane memory adds incremental NVMe features, improved low power states, improved power state transitions, and used an 80mm M.2 form factor with a PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe interface.
The M15 combines Intel Optane technology with the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver to increase overall system responsiveness. It does this by placing new memory media between the processor and hard drives, which gives users the ability to store hot data and programs closer to the processor. Intel claims that this will give the system quicker access to this information. Moreover, because users constantly change their computing habits, Intel has equipped the M15 memory with built-in intelligence to adapt and enable a “responsive, accelerated computing experience.”
