Over the last few weeks, Intel quietly released a new data center (DC) SSD, the P4610. This new drive is also aimed at cloud storage and comes in capacities up to 7.68TB in a U.2 form factor. The SSD leverages the company’s 64-Layer TLC NAND with the promise of performance, QoS, and capacity improvements.

Like several other of the DC Series of SSDs, the P4610 is built for cloud storage architectures. Leveraging the newer 64-Layer TLC 3D NAND the DC P4610 gives a 20% bump in capacity over its predecessor (the P4600). The increase in capacity goes hand in had with the growth in data. Not only is the drive larger it performance up to 35% faster for writes and has up to 35% more endurance per drive.

The SSD DC P4610 comes with Intel’s enhanced SMART monitoring so admins can keep track of drive health and status pinpointing an issue before it becomes a problem leading to a disruption. The drives have PLI protection schemes to prevent data loss during a power outage. And the P4610 comes with security features such as TCG Opal 2.0 and built-in AES-XTS 256-bit encryption engine.
