Intel SSD 520 and SSD 31x Leaked (IDF 2011)

During the press conference for the new Intel SSD 710, Intel gave us a quick glance at their new Cherryville and Hawley Creek consumer SSDs. The Intel SSD 520 or Cherryville will be the SATA 6.0Gb/s successor to the current SSD 510, but offering much faster sequential and random read and write speeds. The Hawley Creek Intel SSD 31x is a SLC-based model aimed at hybrid storage solutions in new UltraBooks and will be offered in mSATA and 2.5-inch solutions.

Information on these models is still very tight-lipped, but Intel has been quoted as saying the new Cherryville SSD will beat anything that is currently on the market in the consumer 2.5-inch space. Only time will tell though with these new models, with the Intel SSD 520 expected to be launching in the coming months. Right now the fastest SSDs we have tested to date include models such as the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G or OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS featuring the SandForce SF-2281/2282 processor and DDR toggle NAND.

Intel was very clear that the SSD 31x will not be part of a hybrid hard-drive solution similar to the Seagate Momentus XT, but instead offering a SSD hybrid storage system offering much greater speeds.
