LaCie has announced their Thunderbolt 2 products; 8big Rack Thunderbolt 2, 5big Thunderbolt 2, 2big Thunderbolt 2, and d2 Thunderbolt 2, are now compatible with Windows 7 and 8. Users need to simply have a Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 port, download the Thunderbolt drivers from the LaCie website and install them on their Windows-based computer. Previously LaCie (and most others) only supported Mac OS.
Thunderbolt is an often preferred interface of media professionals and enthusiasts, so many PC users in this demographic will find this news very appealing as LaCie has been a leader in developing premium storage solutions for creative professionals. In addition, this cross-platform compatibility makes way for easy sharing between PCs and Macs at optimum speeds.
LaCie also indicates that the Thunderbolt PC market will continue to grow in 2015 and, according to Intel, virtually all major PC OEMs, such as HP, Dell, and Lenovo, are offering Thunderbolt 2 across their workstation lines. Additionally, ASUS, GIGABYTE, and ASRock are continuing equip their high-end motherboard with Thunderbolt 2, either as a standard feature or through an optional Thunderbolt 2 add-in card. Windows support from LaCie has been a long time coming, but this move should greatly enhance the value of their direct attached storage devices.
