LaCie has announced that its Rugged Thunderbolt storage solution will be released in a 1TB SSD capacity. This significant increase in storage comes with no size or weight increase when compared to the 500GB offering, making it just as portable as before. Our first look at the 500GB SSD version showed that the LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt certainly brought a lot to the table when it came to performance, design, and top-in-class durability for the traveling consumer. This Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 solution is also ideal for tough field work due to its shock, dust, and water resistance.
The LaCie Rugged is quoted to deliver speeds up to 387 MB/s, allowing creative professionals to transfer a 100GB file in less than five minutes all the while providing ample bandwidth to review and edit photos or video in the field. The LaCie Rugged is also MIL-compliant, meaning that data is guaranteed to be protected during accidental drops of up to 2 meters or 6.6 feet (in non-operating mode). With the protective orange case, the LaCie Rugged is IP 54-rated for excellent protection against dust and water splashing during operation. In addition, the Rugged is resistant to vibration and shock and is sturdy enough for reliable delivery to clients or partners. LaCie’s portable drive also offers data protection with AES 256-bit software encryption, which allows users password-protect the entire drive or only certain volumes
Fully bus powered through the Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 cables, the LaCie Rugged is designed for both Mac and PC users. Its integrated Thunderbolt cable can be stowed away when not in use to ensure that it won’t be lost as well as to help prevent any damage that may come its way. The LaCie Rugged includes a backup software suite and is compatible with Time Machine and Windows Backup.
