Today Lexar announced the release of its new USB flash drive that is aimed to provide high-performance while being able to take a beating, Lexar JumpDrive Tough. The new flash drive has a USB 3.1 interface for faster speeds as well as a maximum capacity of 128GB. Not only can the drive take a few lumps in travel it also provides a level of security for its users.

For frequent travelers to adventure enthusiasts, data is either created or needs to be stored while one is out and it is vulnerable to being dropped, smashed, or crushed. Flash drives are typically metal and plastic and day-to-day activities can accidentally damage them. With this in mind Lexar is introducing its JumpDrive Tough. As far as what it can take, the drive is impact/pressure (up to 750 PSI), weather (-13°F to 300°F), and water (up to 98 feet) resistant. Of course physical security isn’t the only security one needs to think about, to that end the JumpDrive Tough is equipped with EncryptStick Lite software (an advanced security solution with 256-bit AES encryption that helps to securely protect files against corruption, loss and deletion).

As stated above, the JumpDrive Tough is a USB 3.1 drive that Lexar states can see transfer speeds up to 150MB/s read and 60MB/s write. An example of what this means in real life would be the ability to transfer a 3GB HD video clip in under a minute. The JumpDrive Tough is backward compatible with USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, works on both Macs and PCs, comes with a 3-year warranty, and (like all Lexar products) underwent extensive testing in the Lexar Quality Labs to ensure performance, quality, compatibility, and reliability with more than 1,200 digital devices.

Availability and Pricing

The Lexar JumpDrive Tough is available today for $19.99 for the32GB, $34.99 for the 64GB, and $59.99 for the 128GB.
