Lightbits Labs LightOS 2.1 Released

Today Lightbits Labs released LightOS 2.1 expanding scale out disaggregated storage capabilities for private, hybrid, and edge deployments. This 0.1 release is said to further enhance high-performance, scalability, and low latency. This is also another step on the path or the company’s vision of enabling organizations to unleash hyperscale storage for private clouds, but at a fraction of the cost of even the most advanced cloud storage offerings.

This 0.1 release is said to further enhance high-performance, scalability, and low latency. This is also another step on the path or the company’s vision of enabling organizations to unleash hyperscale storage for private clouds, but at a fraction of the cost of even the most advanced cloud storage offerings.

There have been lots of changes in the IT landscape. 5G, IoT, AI, ML, and Big Data and the ever-increasing need for analytics are begging for better cloud-optimized block storage volumes that support higher IOPS, higher bandwidth and sub-millisecond, low-variance I/O latency. This is where LightOS comes in. LightOS is said to provide high-performance, low-latency block storage volumes for on-prem cloud native application environments. LightOS 2.1 furthers these benefits.

For years, cloud looked to be the future, and hybrid and multi-cloud adoption is still the direction things are going. But there is still a performance issue, that is being addressed through things like AWS Outposts. LightOS 2.1 states it can deliver the same or better performance compared to Amazon EBS io2 Block Express volumes, do so at a lower cost, and not have the need for special hardware. Lightbits Labs also pointed out that it has always decoupled IOPS from storage capacity and allowed for independent scaling of storage and compute. On top of this, LightOS 2.1 further enhances QoS for logical volumes during drive failure recoveries, multi-tenancy capabilities and adds directed-availability of snapshots and thin clones.
