LSI Corporation has announced a new virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) appliance for use in VMware Horizon View environments. Developed in collaboration with EMC, Mellanox, and Supermicro, the appliance features LSI Nytro 3.2TB PCIe flash accelerator cards, Mellanox’s 40GbE interconnect solution, and Supermicro servers powered by EMC ScaleIO. The appliance is designed to support new deployments and provides a means for linear scaling of capacity and performance via additional nodes.
Supermicro’s WIO server building blocks provide the basic structure for scale out systems like EMC ScaleIO. The ScaleIO software uses the host’s local storage to provide virtual SAN storage. Each server node can support up to 167 desktops, and will be priced to make virtual desktops price-competitive with entry level business workstations.
