LSI has released an update to its SSD-caching software package for their MegaRAID 6Gb/s SATA+SAS controller cards. The software allows a tier of SSDs to be added to a HDD-based array and serve as cache to increase transaction speeds. The company claims a 13X increase in transaction rates with a 82% cost savings.
MegaRAID CacheCade Pro 2.0 Features:
The MegaRAID CacheCade Pro 2.0 differs from the previous 1.1 version primarily in that it now offers write caching in addition to read caching. It supports write-through as well as write-back RAID controllers and an SDRAM cache mode to allow IOs not cached by the software to be serviced by the RAID controller’s SDRAM cache. It also allows caching to be enabled or disabled on a per-volume basis. This version of the software supports RAID 0, 1 and 10 on an SSD cache pool to provide greater data security options. The software lists for $270 and is available now from LSI.
