Memblaze Releases 11TB PCIe NVMe SSD

Recently Memblaze Technology Co., Ltd. launched its next generation of PCIe NVMe SSD products, PBlaze5 700 and 900 series. The new SSD series are designed for hyper-scale data center deployment and for enterprise mission critical applications, respectively. The new drives come in both U.2 and Half-Height Half-Length Add In Card (HHHL AIC) form factors, utilize Memblaze's high-quality 3D Enterprise-level TLC NAND, support NVMe 1.2a, and have capacities up to 11TB (8TB for the 900 series).

The new NVMe SSD is the next step after the PBlaze4. The drives bring enough density to lower overall footprint while improving performance and greatly reducing latency. The drives have quoted performance in upwards of 6GB/s for read bandwidth, over a million IOPS for random read, and a typical read/write latency of 90/15μs. The U.2 form factor of the drives is hot-swappable, increasing serviceability while reducing potential downtime.

Of the two series of drives, the PBlaze5 700 is the higher capacity, 11TB. This allows companies to compress physical footprint, as less nodes will be needed overall. This reduction in footprint can reduce costs and further so by the reduction in power usage. The ideal use cases for the 700 series are database, cloud computing, software-defined storage, search engine, and big data application workloads.

The more endurance oriented PBlaze5 900 series is aimed at meeting the needs of mission critical enterprise applications. Aside from the higher endurance (enterprise-level JEDEC load life up to 3 DWPD for 5 years), the 900 series supports NVMe end-to-end data protection standard, with SBER < 1E-23. The drive also has a dual port U.2 interface design to help reduce risks of interruption caused by single-host downtime.
