Today NetApp Inc. announced a new cloud-integrated backup and restore solution, NetApp AltaVault (formally SteelStore). AltaVault aims to provide customers with the ability to quickly backup data to any cloud, public or private, at up to 90% lower cost than on-premises solutions. The new solution will include physical, virtual, and cloud-based appliances.
As backup footprints grow, organizations are looking for a way to backup without increasing costs. Organizations also want a reliable disaster recovery capability to help avoid downtime. NetApp AltaVault offers companies security, speed, and economics they are looking for without adding any more management complications. AltaVault can be managed through the companies existing framework, physical or virtual, and looks like the backup target. AltaVault works with VMware ESX and Microsoft Hyper-V and AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure.
AltaVault also comes with extended services to help optimize IT operations. These services include performance support for the backup and archive environment throughout knowledge transfer, on-site and remote troubleshooting, and customized proactive care. NetApp will also help customers build a roadmap for data protection that is specific to their needs while identifying and prioritizing data that is suitable for the cloud. NetApp and its partners will also offer cloud strategy workshops, along with design, implementation, and support services to simplify overall data protection processes and optimize backup and archive performance.
