Today Netlist, Inc. announced that it is shipping its new high performance N1952 NVMe SSD as well as it low power N1552 NVMe SSD line. Both of the two new drive families leverage 96-Layer 3D NAND technology and enhanced firmware. From a security perspective, the drives use standards-based T10 Protection Information (PI) and encryption key management features.

Both of the new drives announced are aimed at the enterprise. On the high-performance side, the N1952 (as well as the N1951) is all about performance and capacity. The drives are aimed at eliminating storage bottlenecks and handling heavier workloads. These drives come in 3.2TB-7.68TB in capacity and U.2 and AIC HHHL form factor. For the lower power, data center drives, Netlist is releasing the N1552. The N1552 is said to be lower power (and OPEX, though they don’t provide numbers) and work with a variety of data center applications. The N1552 comes in U.2 and AIC HHHL form factor. The drive comes in capacities from 1.6TB to 3.84TB.

Benefits of the two new drive families include:

  • High transfer speeds up to 6 GB/s and up to 1M Read IOPs (N1952)
  • Low active power: < 8W (N1552)
  • NVM Express compliant form factors: U.2 (2.5”) & AIC HHHL
  • TCG Opal encryption key management to help reduce data breach costs
  • AES-256 encryption: Self-Encrypting Drive (SED)
  • T10 PI for end-to-end data protection (DIF/DIX)
  • Variable sector sizes (512B, 4KB, 512+8B, 4KB+8B, 4KB+64B) used for erasure coding to ensure the highest data integrity for mission critical applications
  • Up to 32 namespaces for virtualization and application acceleration, reducing TCO
  • Thermal management temperature settings & sensors
  • Dual port PCIe capability
