OCZ Storage Solutions has announced the Intrepid 3700 Series, a new family of SATA III SSDs that adds to its Intrepid 3000 enterprise portfolio. The new Intrepid 3700 SSDs are designed to deliver top-class performance and I/O latency responses, which OCZ indicates will dramatically improve application performance and I/O efficiencies. The new line will also support higher storage densities up to 2TB, representing OCZ’s largest capacity of enterprise SATA SSDs to date.
Equipped with the latest Toshiba A19nm NAND flash, the Intrepid 3700 Series will be available capacities of 240GB, 480GB, 960GB and 1,920GB in usable storage. OCZ’s Everest 2 controller platform lies at the heart of the new Intrepid series, including an optimized firmware architecture and advanced flash management that efficiently manages all housekeeping routines (including garbage collection and wear-leveling). OCZ notes that this will allow the Intrepid 3700 Series SSDs to maintain performance over the long term.
In addition, OCZ indicates that the Intrepid 3700 series delivers excellent performance for both large block sequential operations in a steady state condition, as well as during small block random operations. This includes quoted speeds up to 540MB/s for sequential reads (128KB blocks), 470MB/s for sequential writes (128KB blocks), 91,000 IOPS for random reads (4KB blocks) and 13,000 IOPS for random writes (4KB blocks).
The Intrepid 3700 Series also offers users with an advanced suite of endurance and reliability tools designed to extend NAND flash memory life, which are required by today’s datacenter managers:
The Intrepid 3700 Series supports the industry standard 2.5-inch form factor and is guaranteed up to one complete DWPD for 5 years by OCZ. The new line of SSDs are targeted for read-intensive application use cases such as online archiving, media streaming, video on demand (VOD), virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), and web browsing applications.
